Glowfy XLG IP67 Power Supplies: 75W to 320W Selection Guide

An XLG supply can be a good fit for a weather-exposed sign, but selecting one by wattage alone can leave the wrong voltage, overloaded branch wiring or poor service access. Glowfy currently lists five XLG product families from 75W to 320W. This guide compares them using the live product descriptions and shows how to size the complete installation.

The short answer

Glowfy lists its XLG products as IP67, not IP68. Choose the output voltage that matches the LEDs, add the full nominal load, then check the exact unit’s continuous rating, temperature derating and output current. Design cable distribution for the actual current. The IP67 enclosure rating applies to the driver, while connections and the complete sign need their own protection.

Current Glowfy XLG range and variants

The 75W listing is a 12V model. The 100W, 150W and 200W pages show selectable 12V and 24V versions; check the selected variant on the live page before ordering. The 320W listing reviewed here is a 12V model. Product titles can be more general than the selected variant, so confirm the actual output voltage and current on the order and the delivered label.

All five current descriptions identify IP67. That is a defined enclosure test rating, not IP68. Do not copy the IP rating from an IP68 LED module to the power supply. The driver’s own documentation controls mounting, exposure and temperature.

Calculate load before choosing a model

For LED modules, multiply module count by rated watts. For LED strip, multiply metres by watts per metre. Sum all branches that will share the supply. For example, 100 GL K8 PRO modules at 1.2W draw 120W nominally, or 10A at 12V. A 150W 12V model could be considered at 80% of its rating, but only if its exact continuous-load, case-temperature and installation conditions allow that arrangement.

A planning margin such as 80% is a convenient design target rather than an absolute rule for every XLG variant. Some LED drivers can operate at full rated load within the stated temperature envelope. Read the exact manufacturer datasheet; check whether the selected unit is a fixed-voltage version suited to the 12V or 24V LEDs rather than assuming every driver with “XLG” in its name behaves identically.

Three sign-making examples

A compact 12V letter sign using 50 GL K2 PRO modules at 0.72W has a nominal load of 36W and approximately 3A. A 75W 12V XLG may be a candidate, subject to its actual specification and installation. A 5m strip rated 15W/m at 24V consumes 75W, about 3.125A; select a 24V version from the range, not the 12V 75W unit.

For a larger sign with 180 modules at 1.2W, the nominal load is 216W at 12V, or 18A. A 200W unit is below this load. The 320W 12V product might provide sufficient total capacity, but high-current distribution and voltage drop become critical. Alternatively divide the sign into independently designed circuits with separate supplies; do not join their DC outputs unless expressly allowed by the manufacturer.

The high-current wiring problem

At equal power, a 12V system draws about twice the current of a 24V system. That affects cable section, connector rating, heat and voltage drop. A 320W 12V supply can deliver around 26.6A at rating; an individual module chain or small terminal is not automatically suitable for that current.

Plan branch feeds according to the LED maker’s maximum chain length. Size the main cable for combined current and each branch for its own load. Measure output voltage at the supply and at the furthest module while the complete sign runs at full brightness. Spare driver wattage cannot repair voltage lost in a long or undersized cable.

IP67 placement and heat management

IP67 concerns dust-tight enclosure protection and a defined temporary immersion test. It does not mean permanent underwater operation, automatic resistance to every jet-cleaning method, or that external cable joints are IP67. Select glands and junctions for their own exposure. Follow the exact driver’s mounting orientation, clearance and case-temperature limits, even if its body is sealed.

Keep the supply accessible for replacement and away from pooling water. An outdoor sign can heat up in sunshine and trap heat inside a cabinet. Check the manufacturer’s derating curve at the installed ambient and verify case temperature by its specified method. Mains-side installation belongs with a competent person.

Commission and document the sign

Record product model, output voltage, connected watts, current per branch and the junction locations. Inspect polarity and cable strain relief. Run every circuit at full brightness and check for flicker, dim far ends and excessive case temperature. Photograph the wiring before closure and retain the driver label and current datasheet with the job record.

Frequently asked questions

Are Glowfy XLG power supplies IP68?

The current Glowfy XLG product descriptions reviewed here specify IP67. Verify the exact delivered unit’s label; do not advertise it as IP68 without model-specific evidence.

Can the 75W 12V product run a 24V strip?

No. The strip and supply output voltages must match; choose a suitable 24V variant.

Does a 320W supply solve voltage drop?

Not by itself. Size and distribute cable appropriately, limit permitted chain lengths and measure far-end voltage at full load.

Can two XLG outputs be connected in parallel?

Only if the exact manufacturer documentation explicitly permits the arrangement. Separate circuits are generally planned independently.
